SPARTAK LOSE OUT

Spartak Moscow has been defeated by Celtic in a Champions League match played at Olimpiyskiy Stadion Luzhniki on Tuesday. Celtic won the match by a close margin of 3-2.

It was a very interesting match and went all the way down to the wire. Both the teams were levelled at 2-2 till the very last minute of the match. But, it was Georgios Samaras who scored the match winning goal for Celtic in the 90th minute with a wonderful header.

The goal was set up by E.Izaguirre. He gave Samaras a lofted cross. The Greek striker didn’t let the opportunity go by. He jumped and headed the ball straight into the left hand corner of the net to give his team a decisive lead.

The stadium was absolutely jam packed for this all important match. More than 43,000 people were out there to support the home team and those supporters would definitely have got their money’s worth. This was a cracker of a match.

Celtic took the lead in the 12th minute of the match with the goal of Gary Hooper. It was a powerful shot by the English striker. The ball flew straight into the bottom corner of the net.

Spartak managed to level the scores just before the half time break. Emenike was the one who found the net for Spartak. Ari passed the ball to Emenike inside the box and the Nigerian striker didn’t make any mistake in beating the Celtic goalkeeper.

It was Emenike again who took his team ahead just a few minutes after the half time break. This goal was even better than the first one. This time, it was Demy de Zeeuw who set up the goal and the Nigerian striker gave the finishing touch amazingly well yet again.

But, Spartak lost the advantage when Dmitri Kombarov scored an own goal in the 71st minute of the match. After that, there were no goals scored in the next 18 minutes and the match was heading towards a draw. But, with the help of that last minute header from Samaras, Celtic managed to pull off the victory.

Celtic’s next match will be a Premier League encounter against Heart of Midlothian on Sunday.
