Spartak Moscow striker Pavel Yakovlev has said that he wants to stay with his current club despite apparent interest from archrivals Zenit St Petersburg. It is expected that Zenit will be coming in with a bid for the striker in the summer. He has said that he is not drawn by the transfer rumours because he is only focused on playing European football with his current club Spartak Moscow. The 22-year-old has just returned from an impressive loan spell with Krylia Sovetov Samara. He spent two seasons at the club before returning only in this new season.
He has two league goals to his name and he is already looking as one of the potent players for the club. Zenit manager Luciano Spalletti is thought to be keen on selling a number of players in order to revamp the squad so that the squad is not have any infighting. Team morale has been a major problem for Zenit despite spending a lot of money on high profile players like Hulk. He is expected to be one of the players sold in the summer. Hulk, though, has been in promising form for the club in the last few months, as he has been able to score 10 goals already.
“I do not know what has been written about my future. At the moment, these are all rumours. And generally speaking on the topic, I have not heard of any offer yet. Now I do not see any reason to go somewhere out because I personally get a lot more interest playing European football with Spartak. Spartak spirit is a sensitive issue. For me it is something that is more to improve the playing style. I think we should talk less about that spirit of Spartakovskaya,” said Yakovlev, thus reiterating his loyalty for Spartak Moscow.
